We are looking for TechLink VOLUNTEERS to meet virtually with CCPA seniors during the Spring 2023 semester on a regular basis to give them feedback about their senior capstone projects.
Volunteers will meet with small groups of students via Zoom and provide feedback about their ongoing progress. Volunteers must commit to weekly or biweekly virtual meetings (20-30 minute feedback sessions via Zoom) this February thru April 2023, in the run up to final presentations (which you will be invited to attend). Your designated student group will change from session to session. The students will practice scheduling these sessions with volunteers.
Capstone projects are action research projects that CCPA seniors are working on all year. Students have internships at a community-oriented organization working on subjects like hunger and food distribution, justice for undocumented immigrant youth, racism in technological algorithms, burnout in school staff, and a lot of very interesting projects! Sometimes students need adults other than their teachers giving them feedback and guidance on how this very open-ended project will go.
Thank you so much for supporting Oakland public schools and students!
This partnership is facilitated by the nonprofit Oakland Public Education Fund, connecting groups with schools to make a positive impact on school culture and student achievement through relevant and meaningful volunteer projects.
Girl Geek X adopted Coliseum College Prep Academy beginning in 2021 to provide valuable experiences for the Girl Geek X volunteers to engage with the local school community in Oakland, CA.
