Oakland Public School Volunteer: Girl Geek X CCPA Senior Expo – CANCELED

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: Senior project presentations will take place Friday, May 5th, 2023 from 9:30am to 10:30am at CCPA in East Oakland. 

The school welcomes VOLUNTEERS interested in attending and providing feedback to the students on their yearlong projects! The students voiced that they enjoy having professional feedback and this is the perfect opportunity. Here’s what a volunteer last year wrote about the experience!


Volunteers will listen to group presentations on the community issue they have chosen, the problem statement they’ve created, and their ideas on solutions. Your role will be to ask questions that prompt critical thinking and give feedback to students!


These projects are action research projects that CCPA seniors have been working on all year. Students have internships at a community-oriented organization working on subjects like hunger and food distribution, justice for undocumented immigrant youth, racism in technological algorithms, burnout in school staff, and a lot of very interesting projects!

This partnership is facilitated by Oakland Public Education Fund, a non-profit connecting groups with schools to make a positive impact on school culture and student achievement. Learn more about the Girl Geek X Oakland Education Fund partnership, providing valuable experiences for the Girl Geek X volunteers to engage and support with a local school.

CCPA has the highest college-going rate in the district despite being located in one of Oakland’s highest poverty neighborhoods.

Directions to School: CCPA is located on the Havenscourt Campus at the corner of 66th and International in Oakland. The address is 1390 66th Ave., Oakland, CA 94621. The school entrance is on the CORNER of 66th Ave and International. You will need to buzz in, due to security, and let the front office know that you are here for the Senior Capstone Project presentations with Shrotriyee (Shro) Jacque.

 

COVID Protocols: Please make sure to wear a mask at all times. The one exception would be drinking or eating outside. If you have any Covid like symptoms or have potentially been exposed, please stay home.

 

Parking Suggestions: We recommend that you park in the alley between the baseball field and our small parking lot on 66th Ave. You are welcome to park on the school side of the buildings/fences BUT NOT the side of the fields. Street parking on 66th is also available.
