Oakland Public School Volunteer: 📚 Latine/x Read-In

Enthusiastic volunteers neeeded for reading to elementary school classes to in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month!

We encourage folks who identify as latine/x to sign up, but community members of all identities are welcome to participate in this event.

Girl Geek X volunteers will read books (provided by the Oakland Education Fund) to students in 2-3 elementary school classrooms at Sequoia Elementary in Oakland, California!

As a guest reader, you’ll also have a chance to ask students questions about the book read and share about yourself (your connection to Hispanic Heritage Month, your connection to Oakland, and why you’re excited to be there!).

This event is organized in partnership with the nonprofit Oakland Public Education Fund, which connects groups with schools to make a positive impact on school culture and student achievement through relevant and meaningful volunteer projects.

Our partnership goal is to support students in East Oakland, CA by partnering on a variety of volunteer activities throughout the school year — from volunteering on-campus to field trips to tech companies.
