Learn from Western Digital’s Chief Data Scientist Janet George, and Judy Logan the co-director of Women in Data Science at Stanford University as they discuss how data is transforming all aspects of society and work.

You’ll also get a chance to hear from women at Western Digital about how they’re using data insights in their own work and how they’ve navigated the career jungle gym to define their own success.

Connect with women at networking tables and have opportunities for interaction during the panels too (think quizzes, polls, and prizes).

Speaker Bios:

Janet GeorgeJanet George, Fellow & Chief Data Scientist, Western Digital
Janet is a Fellow and Chief Data Scientist at Western Digital. She is a technical leader with more than 15 years of experience in Big Data Platform, machine learning, distributed computing, compilers, and Artificial Intelligence. Previously, she served as managing director, chief scientist, and Big Data expert at Accenture technology labs. She has also served as head of Yahoo Labs Research Engineering, inventing next-generation platforms, cloud infrastructures, and machine learning for Big Data, as well as at eBay and Apple. Janet holds a Bachelors and Advanced Master Degree with distinction in Computer Science, Mathematics, with a thesis focus on AI and ML.

Janet will be speaking about data and its role in cutting edge technologies at Western Digital Girl Geek Dinner.

Judy LoganJudy Logan, Co-Director, Women in Data Science Conference, Stanford University
Judy works in the Institute for Computational & Mathematical Engineering (ICME) at Stanford University where she co-directs the Women in Data Science Conference and associated initiatives. Prior to this, Judy worked as a marketing executive and consultant for technology companies, large and small, on marketing strategy, branding, integrated campaigns, and product introductions. Judy holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, with a concentration in business, from UCLA.

Judy will be speaking about data and its role in cutting edge technologies at the Western Digital Girl Geek Dinner.

Barbara NelsonBarbara Nelson, Vice President & General Manager, Western Digital
Barbara brings over 20 years of executive leadership experience. Barbara has a strong entrepreneurial track record, growing businesses from concept to over $100M four times in three different companies. She has been a CEO twice, most recently at Element Labs, a market leader in high-end video software and lighting systems for entertainment and architecture. Prior she was CEO of NeoScale Systems, a pioneer in enterprise storage security. She was EVP/GM of IronKey by Imation, a cloud enterprise security business. She led tape, media and hard drive businesses at Quantum and memory businesses at Intel. She has a BSEE from Stanford University. For fun, she’s traveled to over 80 countries with her husband and plays keyboard in a couple rock bands.

Jackie JungJackie Jung, Senior Director of Program Management, Western Digital
Jackie heads the program management office and manufacturing analytics for high volume HDD products. Jackie has over 20 years of experience in product process design, new product introduction and program management of the full portfolio of HDD devices. In the past 8 years, she has added in her expertise advanced analytics applications in manufacturing and product design. She completed a 5-year international assignment in 2 cities in South East Asia and has returned to California. Jackie enjoys singing, cooking and service trips with her family. She received Bachelors and Masters degrees in chemical engineering from UCLA and Stanford University respectively.

Linda ZhouLinda Zhou, Director of Research & Life Sciences Solutions, Western Digital
Linda is the Director of Research and Life Sciences Solutions for the Data Center Systems business unit within Western Digital. She has in-depth knowledge of life sciences, machine learning, big data analytics, IT service management and compliance archiving. Prior to joining Western Digital, she held business and technical positions at Silicon Graphics, EMC, Hewlett Packard and BMC Software, and ran a development services company in the data management space. She earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Jinan University.

JuneAn LaniganJuneAn Lanigan, Senior Director of Enterprise Data Management, Western Digital
JuneAn is a business executive with over 20 years of experience in successfully defining, leading and implementing enterprise data management strategies aligned to business goals. She is skilled in leading both business and IT teams in Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence / analytics, Data Governance, Master Data Management, and Big Data solutions, JuneAn has excelled in incorporating data management disciplines into corporate DNA. Prior to Western Digital, JuneAn has held senior leadership positions at IBM, Siemens, Cisco, Intuit, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, and Juniper Networks.

Karin WerderKarin Werder, Senior Director of Product Management – Embedded & Mobile, Western Digital
Karin is a Senior Director of Product Management responsible for defining Western digital’s Embedded and Mobile Product Line. In her role, she works closely with engineering, firmware development, technology and customers to define a billion dollar product line. Karin leads a team of product managers, software developers and system experts who work to develop products that meet end system requirements. She spent 12 years at Blackberry establishing and growing a team that integrated memory and storage components into Blackberry’s custom OS. After completing her MBA, she moved to the Bay area and transitioned from Engineering to Product Management. Karin holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management.

Susan ParkSusan Park, Senior Director of Product Management, Western Digital
Susan leads global product lifecycle management for Western Digital’s consumer products and solutions under the G-Technology, SanDisk and WD brands. This extensive portfolio includes flash memory cards for smartphones, cameras and tablet computers, USB flash drives and solid state drives (SSDs) and HDDs for a variety of consumer and professional applications. She sets the product vision and strategy, and is also responsible for product roadmap execution. Susan works across organizational boundaries to develop and implement revenue and market share gains across all emerging markets. Currently, she oversees Western Digital’s $3.5 billion+ product revenue portfolio. Susan has over 20+ years of experience in consumer electronic/data storage product management and product marketing. Susan holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Berkeley at California, and attended Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive leadership program.

Lori SundbergLori Sundberg, Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, Western Digital
Lori is Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Western Digital Corporation, leading key global human resources initiatives and people strategies. Lori has more than 20 years of experience in developing and aligning HR strategy with business needs. She has led large corporate initiatives focused on culture, organization effectiveness, leadership development, labor & employee relations, talent & performance management, workforce planning, recruiting, compensation, HR systems, and benefits. Before joining Western Digital, she served as SVP, Global HR at Jacobs, a global provider of technical, professional and construction services. Lori has also served as SVP, HR and Ethics at Arizona Public Services Company, the largest electric utility in Arizona, and advanced through a series of HR leadership roles at American Express. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University.
