Jenie GaoJenie Gao, Director of Engineering, LinkedIn
Jenie is currently a Director of Engineering at LinkedIn. During her seven year(+) tenure with the company, she has risen through the ranks from a senior software engineer in LinkedIn Flagship product development focused on projects that help drive site growth, user engagement and content creation to now leading a team of engineers developing the company’s presentation infrastructure. Prior to working at LinkedIn, Jenie worked at Google, startups and IBM, so she’s very familiar with what is takes to succeed at fast-paced technology companies in Silicon Valley. With a data and backend engineering background from her time both at LinkedIn and Google, Jenie understands that technology enables and transforms businesses. She believes people and culture are fundamental building blocks of great technologies, and ultimately, code is written to benefit human lives. It’s Jenie’s goal to undo technology isolation and utilize technology to strengthen our notion of society, enhance our connections to others and help each other. It’s her passion to help others reach their goal and progress in their careers. She strives to build trust and enable people to take risks to reach their potential. Shalini AgarwalShalini Agarwal, Director of Engineering, LinkedIn
Shalini is Director of Engineering at LinkedIn, responsible for core experience of Sales Solutions enterprise product. Before building experiences to make Sales professional successful, she was responsible for delivering scalable Data Applications. This included Reporting, Experimentation platform enabling A/B tests across all LinkedIn products, Tracking, Data Quality, Wherehows a metadata management system, and delivery of insights for multiple business units across LinkedIn teams. She also led Search Applications team, built search experiences across mobile and desktop at LinkedIn. She brings 15+ years of software engineering experience along with management of teams across continents, shape organization alongside executives and delivery of top line results. Shalini spent nearly a decade at eBay, buyer experience and transforming her career from individual contributor towards management. She has worked at multiple startups and contributed to large corporations. Her passion lies in building great software, business applications and empowering women.

Suja ViswesanSuja Viswesan, Director of Engineering, LinkedIn
Suja is an Engineering Director who heads the Analytics Applications and Platform Org, which is responsible for LinkedIn’s MetaData Platform, A/B testing platform, tracking and many marketing/sales applications that are used to make key business decisions at LinkedIn. Prior to that, she led the Big Data Platform organization at LinkedIn. This platform powers products like ‘People You May Know’, Feed relevance, etc. Some of the open source contributions from the team include, WhereHows, Gobblin, Azkaban, Dr.Elephant. Prior to joining LinkedIn, Suja led BigInsights Hadoop team, Database teams at IBM. Suja is very passionate about Women in tech and has participated in various panels/talks at Strata Data, DataWorks summit, Girls Scout, Girls Who Code, LeanIn, and Universities. Nadia FawazNadia Fawaz, Staff Software Engineer in Machine Learning / Data Mining, LinkedIn
Nadia is a Staff Software Engineer in Machine Learning/Data Mining at LinkedIn. She is tech lead for the job recommendation team. Her research and engineering interests include machine learning for personalization, fairness and data privacy. Her work leverages techniques from AI including deep learning, information theory, random matrix theory, statistics and privacy theory, and aims at bridging theory and practice. She was a winner of the ACM RecSyS challenge on Context-Aware Movie Recommendations CAMRa2011. From 2011 to 2016, she was a principal research scientist at Technicolor research, CA. From 2009 to 2011, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Research Laboratory of Electronics. She received her Ph.D. in 2008 and her Diplome d’ingenieur (M.Sc.) in 2005 in electrical engineering, from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications de Paris and EURECOM, France. She is a Member of IEEE and ACM.

Talk Topic: “Recommending Dream Jobs in a Biased Real World” by Nadia Fawaz
Machine learning models learn what we teach them to learn. Recommender systems trained on biased data may reflect the bias. Reducing biases, from societal bias e.g. professional gender gap, to bias introduced by data collection or modeling, is crucial to successfully recommending dream jobs while being true to LinkedIn vision: To create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce.

Renee ReidRenee Reid, Senior UX Design Researcher, LinkedIn
Renee is a Senior UX Design Researcher at LinkedIn with over 15 years of professional experience with Fortune 500 companies in various roles including Project Management, Sales, Customer Experience and User Experience. She currently leads research on the Search. Navigation, Trust and Privacy member experiences including the highly regarded GDPR compliance. Renee is Professional Mentor with TechWomen, an Initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, providing access and opportunity to Emerging Leaders (ELs) in Africa, Central and South Asia, as well as the Middle East. In addition, she is a registered Everwise mentor, an online mentoring platform where she provides development and mentorship to women in UX.

Talk Topic: “UX Research & Collaboration: Designing for Data Privacy” by Renee Reid
This talk highlights the importance of cross team collaboration during the UX Research and Design process and how designing for data privacy benefits from it.

Nina MushianaNina Mushiana, Senior Site Reliability Engineering Manager, LinkedIn
Nina is a Senior Site Reliability Engineering Manager at LinkedIn overseeing Site Operations, Disaster Recovery, Incident Response & Visibility Engineering teams. She has extensive experience in leading operations teams at large companies including LinkedIn and Yahoo over the past 7 years.
